Privacy Policy & Collection Notice

This explains, in plain English, what personal information Money Back Australia collects, why, and what we do with it. We handle your information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). We aim to collect as little as possible and to be straight with you about all of it.

Last updated: June 2026.

Who we are

Money Back Australia is a service of Ricekernel ("we", "us", "our"). Ricekernel is the entity responsible for the personal information handled through this site and our calculators.

What we collect

We keep collection to the minimum the tools need to work:

  • Your email address — only if you choose to give it to us (for example, to save a result or to receive an update you have asked for). You can use the calculators without giving us an email.
  • The figures you enter into a calculator — such as your income, your HECS/HELP balance, family and childcare details, and your private-health-cover status. These are the inputs the calculator uses to work out your on-screen result.

About your private-health-cover status. Information about whether you hold private hospital cover may be treated as "sensitive information" — specifically, health information — under the Privacy Act. We collect it only with your consent, and only so the calculator can work out your on-screen result. By entering it, you consent to us using it for that purpose. We do not use it for anything else, and we do not need it unless you choose to run that calculator.

What we don't collect

We never ask for, and we do not collect, your Tax File Number (TFN), your bank login details, or your account numbers. If a tool ever seems to ask for any of these, please do not enter them and let us know.

Why we collect it (purpose)

  • To work out and show you your calculator result.
  • To send you only the emails you have specifically opted into. We do not add you to other lists, and we do not send marketing you did not ask for.

How long we keep it (retention)

We keep personal information for as long as it is needed for the purpose above, and no longer. Calculator inputs are used to produce your result; where you choose to save a result, you can delete it at any time. If you have opted into emails, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, after which we stop sending them. We take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify information we no longer need.

Who we share it with (disclosure)

  • We do not sell your personal information. We also do not "rent" it or share it for others to market to you.
  • Affiliate links. Some pages link to comparison partners. When you follow one of those links, no personal information you entered into our calculators is passed to the partner without your consent — you simply arrive at their site as a new visitor and decide for yourself whether to proceed.
  • Service providers. We may use trusted providers (for example, hosting and email delivery) who handle information on our behalf and only on our instructions. We take reasonable steps to ensure they protect your information.

How we keep it secure

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure — including access controls and encryption in transit. No system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but we work to keep your information safe and to limit what we hold in the first place.

Accessing or correcting your information

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, or ask us to delete it. Contact us using the details below and we will respond within a reasonable time. There is normally no charge to make a request.

Making a complaint

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), the external body that oversees privacy in Australia, at oaic.gov.au.

Contact us

You can reach our privacy contact at privacy@ (TODO — address to be confirmed). We will update this page with the final contact details before launch.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "last updated" date above. Material changes will be made clear on this page.
